IL-Sen: Burris Raises $845.00

We told you about lousy & lousier... here comes the lousiest:

Burris campaign officials on Thursday released a report showing the new senator raised only $845 from January through March and had $111,032 in debts from defending himself in ongoing ethics and perjury probes and travel.

That's a pretty remarkable haul (yes, that's not even nine Benjamins), even for someone as scandal-tainted as Roland Burris. One has to almost try in order to avoid raising at least some money as a sitting Senator. (What, you mean to tell me that he couldn't have squeezed out a couple of grand out of Bobby Rush's campaign committee?)

Burris has his first real fundraiser scheduled for this weekend, but this kind of pathetic first quarter haul may give us a window to his 2010 intentions. If he actually does intend to give 2010 a crack, he'll be hard-pressed to keep up with state Treasurer Alex Giannoulias, who outraised Burris by over a 1000-to-1 margin in the first quarter.

(Hat-tip to conspiracy for the catch)

LOL
Congratulations future Sen Giannoulias!

Peace. Love. Gabby.

$845?
Not $845,000?

I remember John Warner having fundraising figures in the hundreds one quarter, and that was right before he announced his retirement. For a newbie like Burris these numbers are astonishingly bad.

20 years old, male, GA-12 (home), GA-10 (school); previously lived in CA-29, CA-28, CA-23, IL-06, IL-14, GA-01.

Wow
One would think this is a delayed April Fools headline.

A cat can have kittens in an oven but that doesn't make them biscuits.

that achievement definitely should go on his mausoleum

Maybe that's what he's shooting for
Maybe Burris's plan all along was to prove that a candidate can win a Senate race by raising less than $5,000 for the entire cycle.

Hey!
I take credit for "lousiest".

Okay, fine, anyone with half a sense of humor could have come up with it.

Credit due!
Extra hat-tip to you for your use of "lousiest"!

Haha, thanks anyway.
It's okay.  I'd assume a bunch of people independently came up with it, though I would be pleasantly surprised if it was actually my instance of suggesting it that you took.

I really feel I should contribute more to this site apart from just snark and informal commentary.  Unfortunately, despite being unemployed, I'm also doing too many other things (including too many other things on the internet, darn you TV Tropes fora!) to be able to commit to anything...

amazing
I could declare my candidacy for the Senate and get at least nine friends to chip in $100 each. That is really pathetic.

Well
You DO live closer to Illinois than Alan Keyes.  And Keyes won like 25% of the vote.

Before taxes
I make about $900 per week.  So technically I outraised Roland Burris in a single week.  Hmm... if Alan Keyes can run for Senate in Illinois without living there maybe I can to?

I'll bet
There are literally races for dogcatcher where candidates raise more money than Roland Burris.

Funny
I make more then that teaching summer camps. I could raise that much in less then a day.

It's really silly season in terms of fundraising reports, Burris's $845, Dodd's 5 CT donors and Carnahan Smoking Blunt... In Fundraising. Can it get any better?

Huh?!
Dodd's 5 CT donors

Dodd raised all that money and only had 5 donors actually from Connecticut?  Or am I reading that wrong?

Wow
Not even his own family wants to give him alot of money.

When You Have Less Money In Your Campaign Coffers
Than in my saving account, that means you're screwed!

Goodbye, Roland. Thanks for the hilarious memories.

His name starts with "Bu".
I call bull.
