Cook Makes Some Ch-Ch-Changes

Posted by James L.

The Cook Political Report updated its House race rankings today. Here are the movers and the shakers:

AZ-08 (Kolbe), Toss Up to Lean D
FL-13 (Harris), Likely R to Lean R
IL-11 Weller, Likely R to Solid R
KY-02 Lewis, Likely R to Solid R
NE-01 Fortenberry, Solid R to Likely R
VA-10 Wolf, Solid R to Likely R
ND-AL Pomeroy, Likely D to Solid D

Five races moving in the Democratic direction, while two slide back into safe Republican territory. Not a bad deal. Cook's decision to rate AZ-08 in the Democratic column marks it as only the second Republican-held district that he's tagging as a Democratic pick-up (Lampson in TX-22 being the first). I wonder if any more GOP-held districts, and which ones, will float to the D column in the next month and a half.

Here's an artical on the NY 26 Race. It's just been added to the Emerging races list too.

Tom Reynolds R from Concord NY, incumbent and head of the NRCC is up against Jack Davis D from Akron.

Movements from Sabato ("Sep.19 Primary Updates"):
Ten. Sen. from Leans Rep. to Toss-up.
Wash. Sen. Toss-up to Leans Dem.
Mass Gov. Toss-up to Leans Dem.
VT Sen. Leans Indy to Likely Indy.

Despite what Sabato says, it's highly doubtful that WA-Sen at any point was a "toss-up".

WA Sen. yeah agree, LOL. Even though the gop'ers blow off Sabato as a Lib Dem, I think his predictions tend to be fairly conservative. It doesn't look like Cook or CQ Politics ever had this in the Toss-ip category.

NY-26: That link did not work, so thry this one. Interesting that Davis-D will "pump in" $2 million in his race against Reynolds, also interesting to note that Davis picked up the Independence Party line which Reynolds had last time around.
