NY-24: Boehlert Announcement Tomorrow

Posted by DavidNYC

GOP Rep. Sherwood Boehlert, long speculated to be on the verge of retirement, will make an annoucement about his future tomorrow at 3pm. If he leaves (and I lean toward thinking he will), then this seat becomes a top-tier pickup target for us. It went for Bush by just 53-47 and gets a mere R+1 rating from the Almanac. I don't know much about the potential Dem candidates (and there are several). How 'bout you?

I'm licking my lips at the thought of all these retirements! Seems like they just keep piling up (if you include Gallegly's aborted attempt).

Remember, while NY-24 went 53/47 for Bush, it went that way as Kerry won the state 59/41 (basically).

So Bush's percentage was 12 higher than his state percentage.

And Bush's approval rating in New York is now below 30%.

We have an excellent chance of beating Boehlert.

If he does retire then NY 24 becomes a top tier race particularly given the presence of Clinton and Spitzer at the top of the ticket.

The NY GOP is in a world of hurt right now. They cant find a credible candidate for GOV,i or Senate, the congressman in NY20 has been in and out of the hospital, now they face a retirement of a popular "moderate" congressman. The problem for them now is that several state senators want to run forthe seat as well which would add even more pressure on the GOP to hold on to the State senate.
It sucks to be Steve Minarik(GOP state chair)

Is Boehlert's district in the Utica area?
