OH-Sen: Sherrod Brown Almost Announces

Posted by Bob Brigham

From the Toledo Blade:

The director of Mr. Brown’s campaign committee said last night that the congressman would offer “an announcement” in public today, but Mr. Brown did not make one. Instead, he phoned newspaper editors to discuss his plans.

The press has a word for this.

I call it wishy-washy. Just what we don't need right now.

Bob, I know I have given you some guff in the last few days, but it all seriousness...please cut it out.

I know Major Paul Hackett is a great guy. I've met him a few times and I find him to be quite personable and friendly. However, the highest office he has held is a seat on the city council of a small town. He isn't a politician by nature and as such, would be prone to amazing gaffes, especially with the light of a US Senate seat shining down on him. A short primary election is not proof that he is ready to move on to the Senate.

I am also curious how the blogosphere will react when Mr. Hackett votes against something they hold to be very important. Will he then be labeled another Melissa Bean? I am completely serious about this. It is not as if he is a raving liberal (not that Sherrod Brown is either.) At best, Paul Hackett is a Libertarian with a Democratic streak.

So, lets move on. Sherrod Brown will win primary (if there is one.) I also think that someone should get on the phone to Congressman Ted Strickland and ask if he needs a running mate. I hear that one will be available.

I don't see anything for Bob to cut out. Back who you want, but at least call Brown and tell him to quit being the quintessential waffler. God, this is so John Kerry in 2004. What we need are strong-willed, straight-messaged Democrats. If Brown is the man to beat, then act like it damn it. Tell him to quit being such a freaking twit.
