House 2006: DFA's Online Vote

Posted by Tim Tagaris

We can all appreciate the way DFA solicits our opinions on which candidates they should support. They are at it again today, officially rolling out the first batch of 2006 candidates for U.S. House of Representatives.

There are a lot of great candidates on that list: Christine Cegelis and David Gill from my home state of Illinois, Robin Weirauch from Ohio, and two candidates I am warming up to in Pennsylvania, Patrick Murphy and Dr. Steven Porter. There are many others from across the country as well.

My vote? I chose Christine Cegelis (IL-6) because I believe her election is one of the most important intra and inter party contests in 2006. The fact that DFA has a candidate up there in a contested primary speaks volumes. Last election, Cegelis was one of the first DFA candidate selections. She was heavily outspent and still received 44% of the vote. The amazing part about her relative success is that every single vote she received was earned through an extremely solid grassroots organization. Local DFAs have already endorsed her in the primary. Finally, the seat is also an open one and very winnable.

There are many capable candidates on that list, whoever you support, make sure you vote.

Another name on the list from your home state (and my adopted state) of Illinois: John Laesch. He's running against Dennis Hastert in IL-14. I met him on quite a few occassions last year when he was campaign manager for David Gill's campaign. He's a great guy and I wish him the best luck in his campaign.

As for me, my vote went to David Gill (IL-15).
