IL-8: Melissa Bean Dissapoints...Again

Posted by Tim Tagaris

The final straw? I wonder if there is anyone from my hometown willing to mount a challenge to Congresswoman Bean in a Democratic Primary. I think it's safe to say the online money she received in 2004 isn't funding she can count on in 2006 (From the National Journal).

Separately, freshman Rep. Melissa Bean, D-Ill., late Friday became the sixth Democrat to publicly embrace CAFTA.
I just called her office and will have more later as they are sending me information on why she had decided to support a bill so deeply flawed. Every single vote counts on this one, and to see Bean side with corporate interests over the people, again, is pretty tough for me to swallow.

Are there any potential primary challengers?

Primary challenges suck. They help Republicans 100% of the time.

Yea, like when Pat Toomey challenged Arlen Specter, it helped the Republicans. </snark>

Primary challenges don't always hurt the party with the primary. Sometimes it's necessary to get rid of bad Democrats. Take the upcoming election for Illinois Governor. Blago has been a pretty shitty governor and his poll numbers are showing. I'm afraid that if there is NOT a strong primary challenge, we may lose the governor's mansion.

Read it 'n weep

Click Last nite's CAFTA vote

Rememder, she also voted:
- to permanently eliminate estate tax (even for multi-millionaires)
- for banktuptcy "reform" giveaway to bankcard cos.
- for constitutional ammendment to ban flag desecration

Presumably, the xcuse is here is to retain her freshman seat in a "heavily Republican district" (all with the blessing of Emmanuel, Durbin, Pellossi, etc.?)

To be sure, the long knives will indeed be waiting for her in "06...regardless of her record/votes. But most folx I talk to in this district, be they R's or D's, wouldn't agree with those most of these votes, either. In other words, she's pandering more to the RNC gotcha machine than to local interests.

In any case, I won't be delivering ANY votes in '06 for Bean. Of course, my apologies to all for misleading you to believe we were finally sending a descent representative to DC.

Glad to hear I'm not the only IL-8 Dem disappointed with Bean. I'd love to see a primary challenger.
