Al Franken to Run in Minnesota? Tune in Tomorrow...

Posted by Tim Tagaris

We learned earlier today that incumbent Democrat Mark Dayton (MN) will not seek re-election to the United States Senate in 2006. In the past few hours, a number of names have been tossed around. Bob mentioned public radio host and author Garrison Keillor as one possibility.

Toss another radio personality into the mix. Air America Radio's Al Franken is set to make an announcement on his radio show tomorrow.

Possible candidates range from Minneapolis lawyer Mike Ciresi, who ran against Dayton in the 2000 primary, to radio show host Al Franken, who told The Associated Press he would make an announcement on his show Thursday.

For the Republicans, Congressman Mark Kennedy (Rep. MN-6) still appears to be the frontrunner. Even still, our friends at Dayton v. Kennedy now need to get a new blog--which is funny to me.

UPDATE (by David): Looks like Franken is indeed in.

I'd like to see Alan Page run.

I know Franken wants his old pal Wellstone's seat back but maybe he would rather fight Coleman in the Senate too.

Let's not forget progressive Ted Mondale, son of another Democrat who had the beef.

Ted worked diligently for Howard Dean as Co-chair and has a faithful following of troops in Minnesota. I know he's working on his own business right now, but I'm sure he'd answer the call if asked. He's got the experience, ability to raise money, and know how to win in MN.

We shouldn't forget Ted for MN.

This really concerns me. If this was the 2008 race, I wouldn't have any problems. What bothers me is getting Air America Radio really established across the country and Al is a major selling point. His is the only show I make sure not to miss (through downloads, admittedly).

Would Al have to quit his show immediately or in a near time frame?

What would happen to the show if he did?

Please keep Alice Franken out of MN. I'm ebarrassed to learn that he is from here. I have made corrections to your "Peace Pledge" I hope Liberals get some Patriotic bones in them.

Victory Over Violence And My Peace Pledge To Bring Peace To The World

I will value Other Innocent Lives Over my own life. Recognizing that I Do Not Have a lack of self-identity and My hope for the future lay at the roots of Freeing all Innocent People From Dictator violence, I will reach beyond my limitations In Helping Others, taking concrete steps each day to uncover my real potential. I will never give up on my dreams That People Should Live Free Of Torture and Genocide, even if they seem impossible Because Liberals Will Not Lift A Hand To Help Other Nations.

I will respect all life And Help Them To Live Free Of Persecution. Recognizing that violence comes in many forms Including Refusal To Act For The Defense Of Innocent People By The Actions Of Liberals, I will not isolate myself but will Speak Out Against Terrorist Nations To create an environment where others feel comfortable and can be themselves In A Free Society. I will see beyond superficial differences Between Myself And The People That Desire Freedom and reflect on my own behavior To See If I Am Doing Enough In Speaking Out Or Acting In The Defense Of Innocent Human Beings.

I will inspire Action And hope in others To Desire Freedom And Peace For Innocent Noncombatant Humans. With courage, I will resolutely stand up against violence Against People Under Dictatorships, be it verbal, physical or passive and teach others through my own example. I will support others and encourage
them to follow their dreams For The Freedom And Peace Of All Who Desire It.

Think about this: If a terrorist or child molester came into your home and was about to kill one of your children would you:

A. Stand By And Wish Them Peace In Their Journey.
B. Help Them Commit The Act.
C. Try To Get Them Psychiatric Help.
D. Kick The Crap Out Of Them Using Any Means You Possibly Can To Save Your Child.

I know as a parent exactly what I would do. Liberals stop short of doing something to bring peace to the planet thinking it will happen on it's own. Moses had to take action to free the Jews. Palestinian Terrorists will not quit. We have to take action to free oppressed people in Iraq. After talking and trying to reason with killers have failed you must act before more people are killed. God expects us to be involved in this world and not just stand by peacably like feed fish waiting for the next thing to happen. God gave us free will to act and be part of His-Story. We do not currently have The Garden Of Eden where all is well. The French stood by while the Germans kicked the crap out of them. We saved them, they gave us a statue and now are mad because we are helping another group of people like them. Saddam owed them money for the weapons the French sold to Saddam. They also were cut off from the Food For Oil Scandal Money. How can a Liberal Society like the French be so cruel as to put money over the lives of people? Why do Liberals in this country think only about Their Personal Dreams over the lives of peace-desiring people? How can Liberals be so Selfish? Get with it.
