OH-18: Space Endorses Fisher

P'co:

Rep. Zack Space (D-Ohio) endorsed Ohio lieutenant governor Lee Fisher in the contested Democratic primary for the state's Senate seat.

Space said he backed Fisher over Secretary of State Jennifer Brunner because he was persuaded that Fisher was best qualified to help bring economic development to his rural, eastern Ohio district.

"I have a high degree of respect and admiration for Jennifer. My endorsement of Lee is meant to be no reflection on her whatsoever," Space said. "But Lee has simply proven his commitment to people of southeast Ohio."

Space, as you are probably aware, was considering running for Senate himself earlier in the year. With this news, we can now conclusively remove him from our Open Seat Watch.

Fisher will definitely
have the establishment backing and the fundraising advantage and he's well established among state democrats as a figure for several years. I really see him winning, thankfully, because I think he's the strongest candidate and he really deserves his chance to move up after all the decades of service and the many times he has carried the banner for the OH-DP

Call no man happy until he is dead-Aeschylus

I have to agree
I really do like Brunner.  She's been a great SoS.  But in this case I think Fisher is the better choice.  Hopefully Brunner ends up backing out, though she does have every right to stay in the race if she wants.

Wait a second...
"Space said he backed Fisher over Secretary of State Jennifer Brunner because he was persuaded that Fisher was best qualified to help bring economic development to his rural, eastern Ohio district."

And how so exactly???

Fisher obviously must have talked to
him and convinced he would be most in touch with his districts need and be there for him.

Lol, this doesn't do anything but convince me I'm right on this one.
Obviously that's a hypothetical.  There's nothing that's been pointed to yet as a concrete record for Fisher to run with.  I'd like to hear just one thing, ONE THING, he's accomplished as far as public policy.

well, why don't you read up
on his tenure as a State Representative and State Senator? Or his two terms as Attorney General? Or his time as State Director of Development? He's been involved intricately in state politics for 29 years. You're obviously mistaken if you think he was some no name lieutenant governor chosen to balance the ballot. Some people expected him to be governor.

Seriously
And his two defeats were understandable

Lost Attorney General race in 1994 51-49%, a year Dems lost everything nationally.

Lost 1998 Governor's race by a close 50-45% margin against Bob Taft (when he was popular), also not a great Dem year.

the closest governors race in like
44 years.

Gladly.
Would you please tell me where I could do so?

If there's anything to read up on I will gladly take a look at it.  I just hope his record was stellar enough to counter the fact that he's as dull as a dead fish.

Flash is overrated
Sherrod Brown is boring as heck, but turned out to be a great candidate for Ohio.

I agree.
We really need to get over the "style over substance" mantra. Arnold had a lot of flash, and look what happened to him!

So I'm assuming then that you don't have a link for me to read on Fisher's record???
