CT-Sen: Larry Kudlow Weighing a Challenge to Dodd?

by: DavidNYC

This strikes me as hilarious:

Here at CPAC a well placed source with knowledge of the Republican Senate Committee plans tells me that Larry Kudlow is "considering" a Senate run against embattled Connecticut Senator Chris Dodd.

Larry Kudlow has a long track record of being wrong about just about everything. Just last week, for instance, he was addled enough to say of Obama's mortage plan that "the people who win here are Fannie and Freddie. The Americans who paid their taxes on time and their mortgages on time get hurt" - even though Fannie and Freddie are, of course, now owned by the US government. And that's just one example among many, many more - check out Atrios's archives for all kinds of gems.

I'm sure John Cornyn strongly prefers former Congressmam Rob Simmons for this race, and I tend to think this Kudlow rumor won't go anywhere. If nothing else, the guy has a pretty cush life and a... complicated past. But I'd love to see Kudlow make a fool of himself on the campaign trail.

Who is Larry Kudlow?
No, seriously, who is he?

party: Democratic, ideology: moderate, district: CT-01

He's one of the conservative economists on CNBC
He's usually on in the late morning during the week (Eastern time).

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/L...

This should tell you everything you need to know about him:

On June 26, 2002, in a commentary by Kudlow in NRO titled "Taking Back the Market - By Force", Kudlow called for the US to attack Iraq because "a lack of decisive follow-through in the global war on terrorism is the single biggest problem facing the stock market and the nation today." Kudlow was one of 250 economic experts to sign an open letter dated February 12, 2003 endorsing George W. Bush's policies on economic growth and jobs

Economic Neo-Con
It's important to emphasize that he's one of those former Democrats (worked on Pat Moynihan's Senate race with Tim Russert in '76) who, like Jeane Kirkpatrick, was seduced by Reaganomics to the point of becoming a prominent close advisor to Reagan (served as an Associate Director in OMB 1981-1985).

Kudlow is an unabashed cheerleader for the magic and infallibility of Free Markets. Andrew Mellon would have been proud of him.

He's as exciting
As a pet rock.  Seriously, the guy has less charisma than Ben Stein.  He wouldn't break 35% against Dodd.

[ Parent ]
please please please run
I'm curious to know what the floor percentage for Republicans in Connecticut is.

He's a complete clown
He probably wouldn't break 35%.

A far better choice than Simmons or Shays...
..at least if you're Democrat.

Chris Matthews
I wonder if Kudlow is using this as contract leverage much in the same way that Chris Matthews did.  The comedian Richard Lewis who knows Kudlow pretty well describes him as the devil and a complete moron LOL.

Possiible
Republicans love to tun TV and movie stars of all sorts.  Last cycle in NH Jennifer Horne, a local TV star rain in NH IIRC.  But there's also Reagan, George Murphy, Arnold, Kay Bailey Hutchison, J.D. Hayworth, John Barrasso who made it.

Kudlow is one of thise people able to state with complete moral certinty his opinion which is invariably wrong.  How that will play in CT, who knows.  He's no Jodi Rell, though.

I know about Reagan and Ahnold
but what about Murphy, Hutchison, Hayworth, and Barrasso?

Hutchison was a local journalist in Houston, Murphy was a film actor, and Hayworth was (and is still) a radio talk show host

Barrasso
Barrasso is a doctor.  He made numerous Tv news appearances giving health advice.

Senate
She must not have been interested at all, otherwise I can't see Obama picking her if she was.  I don't get why he couldn't just nominate Dean though.  What in the world does he have against him?

Challenge
Do we have anyone who can challenge Dodd?  I think we have a serious problem if he advances no matter who he faces.  Republicans and right wing media have successfully made him and Barney Frank the face of the Mortgage crisis.  Thankfully Barney is still safe, Dodd however I don't think is.  Is Simmons the only possibility outside of Kudlow in terms of "serious" challengers?  What about Johnson or Shays?

Why doesn't Blumenthal run now instead of in 4 years?

Connecticut is still a blue state and Dodd is an entrenched incumbent
While I wouldn't be opposed to Dodd retiring, a primary challange is ridiculous especially if Kudlow is the best they can get (Simmons will probably run, but even then, Dodd should be highly favored).

still waiting
on a poll that actually shows Dodd vulnerable...

[ Parent ]
CN-Sen
keep waiting my friend...you know the truth...there will not be such a poll

[ Parent ]
Ya never know
POS or some other right-wing pollster with a horrible track record may throw out a push-poll.

[ Parent ]
Paging Kos
I'm sure it is coming very soon.

[ Parent ]
Dodd hasn't done anything wrong to this point
Let the facts come out before people jump to conclusions.  The man is owed that not only from the Constitutional perspective, but also from the fact that he's a great public servant.

Larry Kudlow
Well that would be great...Kudlow predicted the Dow "going straight to 14000" the last time it was at 12K or 13K..this was after hit had been over 14K, pulled back, and then briefly rallied...instead, the Dow headed straight to 7K...if Dodd has been weakend, Kudlow as his opponent will guarantee the seat remains Blue.'.another in the recent crowd of Conservative fools: Kudlow, Will, Hannity, O'R, Limby, Palin the wolf killer,Annie C, Bobby "the liar" Jindal: keep it up and you guys will guarantee the reps. will get their 40%

Larry, what does your prediction say
about the Dow Jones Industrial Average?

No way he's running
Reportedly got bounced out of cabinet and COEA consideration for W because of rehab for Bolivian marching powder. Guy was pretty upfront about it, so kind of figured he had decided public life was out of the question.

LOL
I looked up "Bolivian marching powder" in Wikipedia, and discovered, to speechlessness yet also hilarity, the gigantic lists of street names for drugs.

BTW, for those who don't want to look it up, Bolivian marching powder = cocaine.
