NM-01: Heinrich Leads White by 6

Greenberg Quinlan Rosner for Martin Heinrich (9/22-23, likely voters, 6/29-7/2 in parens):

Martin Heinrich (D): 48 (47)
Darren White (R): 42 (44)
(MoE: ±4.6%)

White and Heinrich have been exchanging blows in the press and in ads recently, and it appears that Heinrich is getting the upper hand. A SurveyUSA poll from a few weeks ago pegged the race at 51-46 for Heinrich, so these numbers look pretty trustworthy.

The full polling memo is available below the fold.

Excellent
We need to win this seat to take the New Mexico House delegation.  If there is a tie, this could be critical.

Interesting
Wasn't White supposed to be one of the GOP's best House recruits this cycle?

Yup
Maybe in a year like 2002 or 2004, he could have held this seat if it was open. Looks pretty dicey for them now.

what a change
since he was re-elected Bernalillo County Sheriff with 63% of the vote in 2006 (according to his website)

Haha, yeah but you should have seen his opponent.
The poor schmuck who ran against was a security guard. Yes, I mean like one of those guys you see at Target or Wal-Mart. I've tried researching White's '06 opponent but have found nothing except that his stated profession on a Albuquerque Journal questionnaire was "security guard".

Regardless, it's amazing that White received only 63% of the vote.

What the heck?
I always assumed you had to be a, you know, actual sworn police officer to run for Sheriff.  So all those years I was working the night shift as a security guard while in college I could have run for Sheriff?  Who knew...

[ Parent ]
Hmm, I was high school hall monitor way back,,,
Think I'd have a shot in NM for sheriff?

How are NM-02 and NM-03 doing?

party: Democratic, ideology: moderate, district: CT-01

NM-03 is a Dem lock
NM-02 probably a tossup, but I havn't seen polling data.

[ Parent ]
NM-03 is extremely Democratic
The only reason a Republican managed to win there in the past was because a Green managed to sap a bunch of support from the Democrat. Honestly, I would've prefered Wiviott to Lujan, but Lujan's name is pretty good up north.

Politics and Other Random Topics

24, Male, Democrat, NM-01, Chairman of the Atheist Caucus, and Majority Leader of the "Going to Hell" caucus!
