Hackett: Limbaugh's a "Fatass Drug Addict"

Posted by DavidNYC

Ah, this one was just too good to pass up. Paul Hackett was on Air America the Ed Schultz Show yesterday, and in his typical blunt, truthful style, had this to say:

That's typical for that fatass drug addict to come up with something like that. There's a guy ... I didn't hear this, but actually when I was on drill this weekend, I've got to tell you, he lost a lot of Republican supporters with his comments. Because they were coming up to me, telling me, "I can't believe he said that! Besides that, he called you a soldier. He doesn't know the difference between a soldier and a marine!"

Dayumn!

First off, I'm glad that Hackett isn't afraid to spit at Rush Limbaugh (not that I had any doubts). The nice thing about calling Rush names is that they're 100% true! Secondly, I'm also pleased to see that Rush has begun to badly hurt his own standing among members of our military. Gonna be a little bit harder for Rush to pretend he supports the troops when angry soldiers, sailors and marines know that he thinks most of `em are "staff pukes."

It's always nice when chicken(hawk)s come home to roost.

No offense but could you provide more details? If you're not going to provide a link to the audio, can you at least mention which show he appeared on? The archive (www.airamericaplace.com) doesn't have anything listed yet (not sure how quickly they update).

Isn't this guy just a breath of fresh air? He may be our best candidate in forty years. Is it too early for a "Draft Paul Hackett for 2008" movement?

Samson: Everything you need is in Bobcat's diary link. I've also added a copy of the link higher up in the story.

I am in the Hackett for Senate 2006 Camp. Wingnuts have no love for DeWine. The state cetainly has Taft fatigue (17% approval), and a good dose of southwest-Ohio-R-in-general fatigue. That should hurt both DeWine and Blackwell for Gov. Ohio is kind of a north/south take turns state.

Sooooo, get Hackett on the ballot. I feel the whole of blogoshpere has basically adopted Hackett. He could raise a fuckton of cash, draw out more D voters and perhaps spread the wealth to either Coleman or Strickland for Gov/LG/Atty Gen. ANother important point is to position ourselves for redistricting in 2010 or so.

Here's the email, sent from "Paul Hackett DCCC", with the subject line "No Republican Is Safe":

Dear Charles,

On August 2nd, we sent a shockwave through the Republican Party. In case you don't know me, I was the Democratic candidate in the special election for Ohio's second congressional district. I am also a veteran of the Iraq War.

In a district that has seen 40 point Democratic losses for 15 years, we came within four points. That was after Tom DeLay and the national Republicans poured in a half a million dollars to shore up my opponent.

I couldn't be prouder of our campaign. The national Republicans promised to "bury" me, but we stood tough and put them in their place. On Thursday the Washington Post asked their spokesman whether they had fulfilled their promise, and the spokesman admitted simply: "we did not." Newt Gingrich himself called it "a wake-up call to Republicans."

There are so many people who made this possible. Never having run for public office before, I was amazed by people's hard work, long hours and dedication to my campaign. I could not have run this race without the grassroots Democrats coming to my aid - in message, in boots on the ground, and in contributions to my campaign.

And there was another team who was working on my behalf. At the most critical point of the campaign, the DCCC sent staff to direct a get out the vote operation unlike anything this district has seen in decades. They helped me turn my campaign into a well-oiled machine.

While I took on my opponent head to head, unbeknownst to me the DCCC was quietly tracking the race, digging up the facts, and feeling out vulnerabilities. They lulled the Republicans into complacency for weeks - then unloaded a massive, devastating ad buy exposing my opponent's ties to the scandal-plagued Ohio Republican Party.

My experience as a candidate taught me more than I can say, but I can tell you two things right now:
This race shows that no Republican is safe, and
The DCCC will be the key player in seeing that Democrats take full advantage of Republican vulnerabilities.

After the chips have fallen in November of 2006, I hope we can look back at my race as the first page in a new chapter in history. A chapter where accountability and integrity were brought back to our government. A chapter where deceit and influence-peddling were not taken for granted from those in power.

A chapter where the Democratic agenda of hope and prosperity can make the government work for the American people instead of against them.

I am proud that my race for Ohio's 2nd can serve as a template for how we win seats across this country in 2006.

Our success, and the help of the grassroots community in my race, gives confidence that we will win in 2006. Please help support Democratic candidates across the country.

Thanks for listening, and thanks for your support in this thrilling experience. Please help the DCCC -- I know they'll make us proud.

Sincerely,

Paul Hackett, proud Democrat

Are anyone with me on starting a draft Obama/Hackett movement before the media and bigwigs starts picking their own candidates? If so please contact me.

I haven't posted in a while but I have been paying attention and I just wanted to throw out a couple of thoughts.

First of all, I hope that Paul Hackett is right about the DCCC being more helpful this time around, because it would be a great boon for candidates in a number of places that would close the gap with just a little help. That being said, I am not going to hold my breath.

Secondly, to those of you who are suggesting Hackett in 2008, I admire the sentiment, and in a perfect world he might be a perfect fit. But the reality is there is a long way to go before that.

None of that is to say he shouldn't be running for something again soon, whether it is the House again, Lt. Governor, or something else I don't know. But I do hope to see him running, and winning soon.
