Posted by Bob Brigham

With the Chief Justice in the hospital, it looks like the Radical Right's push to stack the Court with extremists is in full swing. Stay tuned.

I am hoping for no confirmation in the interim, and a joint announcement from the steps of SCOTUS on October 2, by O'Connor and Rhenquist. It is my hope that they step down together. I also hope they go on to reccommend that for the remainder of the Bush administration the Supreme Court hear cases with a seven-member panel. Any justices appointed by this president face a future in which they may have to decide the fate of high-ranking members of the Bush administration, possibly reaching as high as the V.P. or POTUS himself. (Click my name to go to my blog and read "Dateline: Washington Oct. 2, 2005." I was musing about this a couple of hours before I heard this news.)
