DE-Sen: The Castle Amendment - Bend Over!

by: X Stryker

Sun Nov 08, 2009 at 1:36 PM EST

Mike Castle is toast. Not only did he cast his vote against the Health Care Bill and for the anti-choice Stupak Amendment, he also drafted an amendment to allow health insurers to raise your premiums if you don't sign up for a Wellness Plan.

Here is the amendment Mike Castle added to the GOP "Die Quickly" Health Insurance Bill.

''In applying subparagraph (B), a group health plan
(or a health insurance issuer with respect to health
insurance coverage) may vary premiums and cost
sharing by up to 50 percent of the value of the benefits under the plan (or coverage) based on participation (or lack of participation) in a standards-based
   wellness program.''.
   (2) EFFECTIVE DATE.-The amendment made
by paragraph (1) shall apply to plan years beginning
more than 1 year after the date of the enactment of
   this Act.

So Mike Castle's contribution to the bill is to allow your health insurance company to raise your premiums 50% because you didn't adhere to their strict-as-hell wellness program (which probably requires you to report to them your diet and exercise habits).

I'm serious, that's Mike Castle's plan - letting your insurance company raise your rates for not exercising enough. The goal is to generate profits for the health insurance monopolies that contribute huge sums of money to his campaign (an industry generating record profits at the expense of bankrupting consumers). This isn't your typical "weak-tea" Castle spinelessness, this is the real Mike Castle finally showing it's evil, crooked face and telling you to "bend over" in the name of profit.

The next time you hear someone suggest they might vote for Castle, or that he's some kind of "moderate", remind them that Castle wanted to raise our health insurance premiums 50%.

What a sick fucking crook.

Stick a fork in him folks, this is all the ammunition Beau Biden needs to destroy this schmuck. And Beau Biden will run, mark my words, and he will announce it this Tuesday at the Jefferson-Jackson Dinner. And I will be there, and so will papa Joe Biden and the Big Dog Bill Clinton.

That's a good point
voting for the Stupak amendment was a really unwise move for him. Delaware is like a suburban Philadelphia Congressional district with some mostly-inconesquential rural areas mixed in.

I agree with Mike Castle on this
I know that this is off topic, but a large part of the health care costs in this country is because too many Americans are obese, eat too much garbage, and do too little exercise.

And the solution shouldn't be
to fuck over fat unhealthy people. Only people who are clueless think eating healthy and exercising makes you thin, and healthy(sp) etc. Just the kind of assumptions one would expect from Republican congressmen.
If the solution means I have to chart every move I make and everything I eat and give it to insurance companies (whom kill people to get money), then I'd rather keep the problem.

However there is one simply solution that doesn't involve a bunch of wasteful administrative fees, doesn't intrude on privacy and doesn't punish people just for being unhealthy; it is called putting taxes on unhealthy foods.
But the GOP only likes "solutions" that make more problems and harm the masses to benefit some rich guys.

And the solution shouldn't be
The solution should also not be to allow insurance companies to raise premiums up to 50% for anything that's in their complete and subjective control. Ever.

My goodness
Only people who are clueless think eating healthy and exercising makes you thin, and healthy(sp) etc. Just the kind of assumptions one would expect from Republican congressmen.

I guess that most doctors must be "clueless" and "Republican congressmen".  I'll let my sister know that she is "clueless" next time I speak to her.

And for the record
I think there is at least a 30% chance that Christine O'Donnell will be the GOP nominee.

"Who supports our values: Mike Castle
or Christie O'Donnell? [negative ad contrasts] The DSCC is responsible for the content of this advertising"

:D

[ Parent ]
You'd need a third party group
to deliver these ads.  The DSCC would be a little too cute.

A downside to BCRA disclosures
I'll bet you could find some way to get away with it, though. And as "bang for your buck" goes, it's not a bad investment. However, if Castle wins anyway, the move backfires (because he then seems more moderate).

no chance for O'Donnell
I lived in Sussex County, Delaware, the most conservative part of the state, for about a year pretty recently.  Even there, Mike Castle is incredibly popular.  Delaware's all about voting for the biggest name, more than it is about ideology.  Christine O'Donnell is basically a joke who got crushed in a state rep election and then proceeded to alienate herself from everyone by refusing to ride with her opponent in the Return Day parade (which doesn't sound like much but is a HUGE deal in those parts).  There aren't enough teabaggers down there to bring him down, Castle's a heavyweight and O'Donnell's a nobody; he's got the nomination absolutely in the bag no matter what he does from here on out.

[ Parent ]
The teabaggers are good for something
keeping moderate GOPer's scared so they tack to the right and ruin their chances to win the general.
