Q-Poll: Dodd is in Genuine Trouble

by: andgarden

Read and worry:

Connecticut Sen. Christopher Dodd trails former U.S. Rep. Rob Simmons, a possible Republican challenger, 50 - 34 percent in the 2010 Senate race, according to a Quinnipiac University poll released today, as voters disapprove 58 - 33 percent of the job the Democratic incumbent is doing, his lowest approval rating ever.

Dodd doesn't even beat Sam Caligiuri, who leads him 41/37 in this poll.

Dodd is a Senator that I like very much, and I would have to say that he was often my favorite Presidential candidate last year, but I think these numbers suggest that it's time for him to hang up his hat, sadly. The CT public actually blames him for the AIG bonuses, apparently, which they are quite angry about.

He needs to step aside
yeah he's great and all. but c'mon.

Dodd
Is there an ambassadorship or other opportunity for him in the Administration?  I really do like Dodd, as well.  However, these numbers suggest it might not be a bad idea to hand off the reins to Blumenthal (or another viable Dem).  It's still very early and I don't want to come across as a Chicken Little, but, at the moment, a lot of these polls are showing Dodd is real trouble.

CT
I've been saying since the new year Dodd was done.  He needs to step aside for Blumenthal or Lamont right away.

Gotta be Blumenthal or Susan B
Lamont won't cut it.

There's been some conflicting reports in polling here
I'll wait for more polling before I start my doom crusade.

The polling varies
between kinda OK and bad. I am not encouraged.

Then again
Quinnipiac seems to always find incumbents doing really badly (that PA-Sen primary poll, for example, seemed to skew way against Specter, even granting that the Republican electorate in Pennsylvania is getting more conservative).

I'm not saying that Quinnipiac is necessarily wrong, but I'd rather get more confirmation from another poll before sounding the alarm.

For what it's worth,
Quinnipiac is located in Connecticut.

I visited their Law School a few months back.

Fair enough
I'm just a stubborn average of polls type :D

Approval numbers seem off.
33-58 seems rather low.  Last I heard he was in the 40s.  I wouldn't be surprised if it were 40-49 or something like that.  But 33-58 seems far too low.

He has until the fall to turn it round
If his numbers remain anything like this the powers that be will (and should) get him to step aside. We don't want another Toricelli situation.

Dodd's A Good Guy
But for the good of the people of Connecticut, he needs to go.

My Can Of Contemplation is now open to all for perusal.

Not yet
It's not yet time to yank the pitcher.  But, it is time to get the bullpen warmed up.

Problem is he doesn't have the funds to change perceptions
Time is however on his side but just barely.

[ Parent ]
i think the bullpen comment makes the most sense
dodd has endured one bad story after another and he may be at his nadir right now so i don't trust these numbers exactly.  but he better be looking a lot better in 3-6 months or it won't even be his choice anymore.
