KS-03: Moore Will Seek Another Term

by: James L.

Tue Dec 09, 2008 at 9:09 PM EST

After giving us all a scare last week, Dennis Moore, the only remaining Democrat in Kansas' congressional delegation, says that he'll run for another term in 2010:

Rep. Dennis Moore said he plans to run for re-election in 2010, ruling out a possible open-seat Senate bid. Sen. Sam Brownback (R) is retiring and will likely run for governor.

"I am honored to be serving the people of the third district and have every intention of continuing my work in Congress on their behalf," Moore said in a statement released Monday. Additionally, an aide confirmed that the Congressman will not run for Senate.

The timing of this announcement might raise suggestions that Moore has decided to leave the open Senate race to Kathleen Sebelius, who recently withdrew her name from consideration for a job in Obama's cabinet. (But that's assuming he was even interested in the gig in the first place.) Time will tell.

The speculation here tickles me.
Moore was questionable, now he's back on for 2010, conviniently after Sebelius plans on filling her full term for governor... ahh...

one more term?
He's likely going to be redistricted out for 2012, unless
the Dems find a way to hold the governor's chair?

How does redistricting go in Kansas?

Could it get more gerrymandered?
According to Wikipedia, they sliced college town Lawrence in half and moved the other half into KS-02 in 2000.

once reason
Nancy Boyda was able to win last year.

Plus they have to consider that makign the district any more Republican would come at the expense of KS-02, where they might endanger a fragile new incumbent.

Where are you getting either of your first two things from?
I am reading "another" not "one more".  And if you look at a map of Kansas, there isn't really much you can do to do Moore's district.

Don't worry
There is little republicns can do to gerrymander Moore out of his seat.  And in any case I think our chances of holding the Governorship are better than most seem to think.  Lt. Governor Parkinson has the perfect moderate profile to run a serious race for the Governorship.  Also, Brownback, often mentioned as the top GOP possibility for the race, is nowhere near as popular as many believe.  If the republicans nominate someone from the far-right for Governor it will bring out the divisions within the KS GOP and allow Parkinson to receive a good deal of the moderate republican vote.

Parkinson has a strong
chance of winning the governor's chair. Especially if Sebelius is running at the top of the ticket for Senate.

Great news
Moore is a surprisingly loyal party guy for someone representing such a conservative district.  Glad he's staying put.  He is probably too liberal to win statewide anyway.  Hopefully Sebelius takes a crack at that one.

Good
Kansas Democrats already have enough on their plate for 2010.  I wonder if Boyda is interested in a rematch, and whether that would be our best bet of winning the district back.

I read somewhere..
That she might be.

Here probably.
There was an article from Nancy Boyda about how she decided negative campaigning DOES work and she was considering a race like that.

Moore running helps Sebelius
and vice versa to a less important degree.

Bunning to run for re-election?
It sounds like it... http://www.politico.com/blogs/...

U.S. Sen. Jim Bunning reiterated yesterday that he plans to run for re-election in 2010 and said he has formed a steering committee to raise money for his campaign.

no surprise
he's been doggedly saying so for years that he's not intending to retire. Just makes winning that much easier for Chandler.

a alrge one,
greg stumbo, crit luallen, and even Dan Mongiardo. This was the one area of the state Obama made significant improvement in over Kerry, (aside from KY-04, KY-03, and KY-02), but he gained alot of ground, winning populous Fayette county, almost winning Franklin, (Frankfort), and picking up several rural areas while gaining ground in all others. This district leans strongly Democratic in competitive state elections and usually favors Democrats for local elections and for U.S. Representative.

Ya, KY-06 should be ok
The only well-known guy in that district seems to be Fletcher, who held the seat before, and his career is over.
