Don't Just Win... WIN BIG!

It's looking increasingly obvious that we have major opportunities opening up nationwide. We have a real chance to expand our Democratic majority in Congress beyond our wildest dreams (back in 2007) while also winning back The White House with Barack Obama. That's why it's critical that we take action NOW to take advantage of this unique opportunity we have now.

Well, let's start with a race that's suddenly jumped onto the national radar. Let's talk about California's 46th District. I've been working this district for a while now, as I live just blocks away from the district boundary. I can't emphasize enough how good a chance Debbie Cook has to win. I've walked the district everywhere from Santa Ana to Long Beach to Costa Mesa to Catalina. I've talked to Republicans who are ready to vote for Debbie and Democrats who are excited now like they've never been excited before. Now's our chance to turn this red district blue.

Let's talk about the 44th District. This race may still be under the radar, but we shouldn't be ignoring Bill Hedrick. The Republican registration gap has narrowed dramatically, the Inland Empire has been shifting gradually to Democrats, and we have a great candidate running in Corona-Norco School Board Member Bill Hedrick. He's been winning in a "red district" before, so let's not underestimate him now.

And of course, we have even more special opportunities in California today. Both Bill Durston in CA-03 (Suburban Sacramento) and Nick Leibham in CA-50 (Suburban San Diego) are in a dead heat against the Republican incumbents. Charlie Brown in CA-04 (Exurban Sacramento) remains poised to send Carpetbagger Tom McClintock packing to the next race he'll file for. Even supposedly safe Republicans like Mary Bono Mack in CA-45 (Palm Springs Area) are now feeling the heat!

So what can we do to make California bluer? Give! I mean it... Give!

We're only two weeks away from victory. How big do you want it? Well, we can make it big here in California. Are you ready to make it happen?

I think we netroots should be focusing on 03, 04, 46, and 50 right now

Once these get going we should start looking at 45, 26, and 42.

I'd love to actually head over there and campaign on the ground

but barring a miracle, that won't be happening. My parents want me to get something done at home before November, and they're also unwilling to even let me join a carpool to New Hampshire.

Let's kick Lungren out of the House... (CA-03)

Here are a few reasons why the progressive Democratic challenger, Dr. Bill Durston, is an excellent candidate and why this race (CA-03) deserves more attention & funding:

1. Dr. Bill Durston wants to go to Congress not as a career politician, but as a concerned citizen that wants to make a difference. Durston has been caring for people in CA-03 for over 25 years as an ER doctor, served his country in the military in Vietnam, and was president of the Sacramento chapter of Physicians for Social Responsibility.

2. Durston is a man of honesty and integrity. I know him personally and I don't think I've ever met anyone so open and willing to listen. He is literally the polar opposite of Dan Lungren.

3. The Republican "advantage" in voter registration numbers is negligible. CA-03 spans the suburbs of Sacramento all the way to the border of Nevada, with the bulk of the voters living around Sacramento. The district demographics have shifted since 2006 and with intense voter registration drives by the Dems, Durston definitely has a big chance this time around. The Sacramento Bee reported back in March 2008 that:

Republican voter registration in California is on the decline, but nowhere is the effect more pronounced than in the Sacramento region's 3rd Congressional District.
Incumbent Rep. Dan Lungren, R-Gold River, now has the slimmest registration edge of any Republican-held congressional district in the state.

2. This slim registration edge seems to be showing up in the polling. The Durston campaign released the results of a poll that show that the race is a toss up!

For some more reasons why Durston is great and Lungren loathed, see the letters to the editor from this past Sunday's Sacramento Bee. No pro-Lungren voices to be found...

This is a winnable race and Durston could really use your support to help expand the map! You can chip in via ActBlue.
