CO-04: Internal Poll Shows Markey Leading Musgrave

Bennett, Petts & Normington for Betsy Markey (5/13-15, likely voters):

Betsy Markey (D): 43
Marilyn Musgrave (R-inc): 36
(MoE: ±4.9%)

The poll pegs Musgrave's job approval rating at 40%, while 51% of voters disapprove of her performance in Congress.

It's an internal poll, so skepticism is expected.  But the Musgrave campaign's response caught my eye:

Musgrave supporters, however, said it's much too early to count her out of the race. Guy Short, Musgrave's chief of staff, said a poll done by the Musgrave camp in March showed her leading 47 percent to 42 percent.

Even if Musgrave's internal poll is a more accurate snapshot of this race, a GOP incumbent leading an unknown Democrat by a mere 47-42 margin in an R+8.5 district is hardly a stellar performance.  I'll take either set of numbers here.

SSP currently rates this race as Leans Republican.

LORD!
Let this race flip! This could be a great year in Colorado. Get rid of Miss "Gay marriage greatest threat in American" Musgrave and elected Jared Polis in CO-2 who would become only the 3rd openly gay Congressperson serving at present.

???????
barney frank and /??? who is the other?

The other Gay House member
I believe Congressman David Drier (R-Calfonia) is.

Dreier is not officially "out."
His orientation is something of an open secret, so to speak. The only two members of Congress who are openly gay are Barney Frank of Massachusetts and Tammy Baldwin of Wisconsin, both Democrats.  Arizona Republican Jim Kolbe, also openly gay, retired in 2006.

Don't forget
Mark Foley, who came out in a press release around the time he resigned.

Foley had already . . .
. . . officially resigned when he came out.  I'm only counting those who were actually out of the closet while they were serving in Congress.

How come she won last time?
In 2006 it was close but Musgrave won. What changed this time? Is Betsy Markey a better candidate?

26, male, Dem, NJ-12

Good Question
I read about how after she nearly lost, she immediatly started campaigning and started to become visible around her district to make herself a better representative.  After I read that, I thought, well there goes our shot at taking out a wingnut.  I am very happy to see that she is still in danger, lovely.  And Obama will do well in this state and hopefully have some coattails.

Makes me hopeful to oust my wingnut, Michele Bachmann...  I wonder what polling in the MN-6 looks like...

If that's true
then that is very good news. We could still have a shot at this seat!

We also lead big in the CO-Pres and CO-Sen races - Rasmussen Poll
Rasmussen released their most recent polls on the Colorado Presidential and Senate contests:

Senate:
Udall (D) - 47
Schaffer (R) - 41

Udall's lead doubled from 3 to 60 since the last poll.  No doubt the Schaffer-Abramoff connections heloped us.

Presidential Race:
Obama (D) - 48
McCain (R) - 42

Obama is looking great in CO at this point!

I like the Markey folks
They are very on-hand. When I set up a poll on Daily Kos rto see who I should put on my Act Blue page, Markey was one of the candidates. That day, I got an email from Markey's campaign manager asking politely to be be included, which I did because she was the top vote getter. They pay a lot of attention to the blogoshpere.
