IL-Sen: Kirk working for Palin endorsement

According to Chris Cillizza at The Fix, he's got his hands on a memo penned by Mark Kirk agitating for an endorsement from Sarah Palin.
Bob Bobson :: IL-Sen: Kirk working for Palin endorsement

Kirk apparently sent the memo to Republican 'bigwig' Fred Malek, who's been affiliated with Palin for a while.

After noting that Palin will be in Chicago later this month to appear on "Oprah", Kirk writes that "the Chicago media will focus on one key issue: Does Gov[ernor] Palin oppose Congressman Mark Kirk's bid to take the Obama Senate seat for the Republicans?"

Kirk goes on to write that he is hoping for something "quick and decisive" from Palin about the race, perhaps to the effect of: "Voters in Illinois have a key opportunity to take Barack Obama's Senate seat. Congressman Kirk is the lead candidate to do that."

Not sure what Kirk is worried about, as Patrick Hughes seems to be having problems getting his campaign off the ground, but nonetheless Kirk is definitely running to the base as quickly as possible.

At the same time, I'm sure any of the Dem candidates in this race would just love to bring up Kirk being "the candidate of Sarah Palin" or some such thing in the general election.

Getting pretty tired of Kirk
I was hoping to vote in the Rhode Island gubernatorial election but if this keeps up I may switch my registration to my college address in Chicago so I can vote against this douchebag.

Palin brings a lot of excitement, could bring money and more national attention to his race.
I don't think the "Sarah Palin's candidate" line of attack is that strong against someone like Kirk, who has his own record to run on.  I imagine what will happen is it will be seen as a psuedo Obama-Palin showdown if Kirk gets a similar degree of Palin's support as the Democratic candidate gets Obama's support.

But how many people know much about their rep anyway?

Well, what they do know...
Has allowed him to get re-elected in two strong D cycles in his Democratic leaning district.

My point exactly
What 10th District voters know about Kirk is that he's a relatively 'moderate' Republican, particularly on certain issues. Having him running around touting an endorsement from Sarah Palin (and who knows who else) is likely to make a lot of people question that profile.

Also, Kirk might be accepted in his district, but most voters outside the district aren't likely at this point to know a lot about him. I think endorsements from (or campaigning with) people like Palin, or others that were involved in that Hoffman mess in NY-23, are going to make a lot of people think of him as just another Republican. Not what you want in a blue state.
