I just got an email from the Democratic Legislative Campaign Committee passing on the good news that Democrats in Maine flipped a State House seat from red to blue in last night's special election.

I'm happy to announce that Democrat Deane Jones won a special election for a vacancy in the Maine House yesterday. This was a pickup for Democrats. It brings our majority to 89-59 with 2 independents.

Good
But what really need are Maine state senators, DLCC website says we have 18-17 majority, too close for my tastes.

Of course Maine could use new U.S. Senators as well, specifically Collins. I got no beef with Snowe as of this point in history.

Snowe is like Lincoln Chaffee
She should just switch parties.

Great minds think alike. :) (nt)

Snowe won't switch . . .
. . . because she's a Republican by marriage, twice over.  It's a shame, because we could really use someone "pulling a Jeffords" right now, to solidify our majority and make that blowhard from Connecticut irrelevant.

Snowe
She was apparently the biggest eprosn on the Republican side trying to keep Jeffords from switching (besides the leadership of course). Something about wanting to prove you can be a moderate and a republican too.

With Chaffee gone and Jeffords retired: I theorize that if Collins loses this year and Specter retires (or loses) in 2010 that Snowe will either leave or switch out of sadness for her party.

I remember Chaffee coming on the Daily SHow after losing mentioning how it was literally the 5 of them at a table alone (sometimes with McCain joining in the 90s) being the moderate caucus and how that table is now 3 people.
