OH-Sen, KY-Sen: Democratic Senate Candidates Appeal to the Progressive Netroots

With the 2010 Senate races in Ohio and Kentucky featuring two of the most competitive Democratic primaries of the cycle, in two of the key Senate battleground states, Senate Guru contacted the Democratic primaries' major candidates - in Ohio, Lieutenant Governor Lee Fisher and Ohio Secretary of State Jennifer Brunner; in Kentucky, Lieutenant Governor Dan Mongiardo and state Attorney General Jack Conway - to ask them all one question:

Why should the progressive netroots support your campaign in you state's 2010 Democratic Senate primary?

Shame the KY candidates couldn't answer the question
Really liked what Fisher had to say.

His was the only direct answer
The Kentucky boys seemed to just cut-and-paste standard campaign rhetoric, and probably didn't even pay attention to the question.

Too many facts and figures from Brunner
People aren't interested in all that stuff. Present company excepted! :)

Re: facts
You may be right when you say the voters aren't all that interested in statistics, but Brunner's answer was well thought out and very detailed, and she hit on a lot of clear topics, like marriage equality and women's rights.  Fisher's answer wasn't bad, but it seemed like he stayed more within certain generalizations.  I'm starting to feel slightly more bullish about Fisher, but I really, really like Brunner and think she would be an outstanding senator.  She knows her stuff, campaigns well, and is a very solid progressive.  If 2010 is a poor year for Dems across the board, I might have some reservations about her electability in Ohio because of her liberalness, but she's won statewide here before so I'm not sweating too much.

The Kentucky candidates really didn't give good answers at all.  I'm starting to get the feeling that Mongiardo and Conway are going to kill each other in the primary, and whoever emerges is going to be beaten and battered beyond recognition.  Not good.
