KY-Sen: McConnell Up by 3 in Dem Poll

by: James L.

Garin Hart Yang for Bruce Lunsford (10/6-7, likely voters):

Bruce Lunsford (D): 45
Mitch McConnell (R-inc): 48
(MoE: ±4.5%)

Could this be the mystery poll that the Rothenberg Political Report teased us with last week? Maybe. (Update: Nope, this poll was conducted just a few days ago.)

In any case, even McConnell's own pollster agrees -- this race is getting closer.

The full polling memo, which includes some good news about the undecided vote, is available below the fold.

The poll was conducted this week
Unless he had a time machine, Rothenberg couldn't have known about it.

Yeah
I only got a copy of the polling memo and found out the dates after I wrote that. I'll correct that.

If true
very good news.

Go all out Chuck. Let's take out Mitch.

If Mitch loses
I want to see Tom Daschle front and center at the democratic celebration party as a big FU to the republican leadership.  Assuming there is any republican leadership left in their sad little caucus.

In a sense this is our second bite at the apple
We did take out Santorum last time, after all.

[ Parent ]
Heh.
What if the Republican have a leadership contest and no one shows up to vote?  Who is next in line anyway?  Is it Kyl?  If he is, he won't be minority leader after overseeing the RSCC this cycle.

It could be Kyl
But I'm hearing Lamar Alexander mentioned too.  However Lamar has never been a favorite of conservatives, so my money would be on Kyl.

Kyl
and Ensign is the head of the NRSC this cycle.

[ Parent ]
Oops.
I always confuse those two senators.

Neither of them
Are all that memorable.

Peace. Love. Gabby.

Haha I thought you meant Mitch Daniels by this
Though in that case, we need to ditch both Mitches.

party: Democratic, ideology: moderate, district: CT-01

Anyone have an opinion to whether KY or GA is a better pick-up opportunity?
My gut tells me Georgia, but Lunsford seems to be doing well. I'd love to get both if that's somehow possible.

Well, that's two of the three senators who need some punishment
The other one is Jim Inhofe.

Let's just hope Andrew Rice catches up in time!

Good catch, James.
One too many beers.

[ Parent ]
No worries.
It seemed a bit out of character for you.

I could sure go for a brew right now, though.

[ Parent ]
The incumbent
Is probably weaker in Georgia and we probably have a candidate with a better profile but Lunsford's got tons of cash and Martin's got almost none.

So it's hard to tell. Both about equal at this point I'd say.
