IL-18: Hitting Hard

Well, it took some time, but Democrat Colleen Callahan just hit the airwaves with a new ad smacking Aaron Schock over the biggest policy-based gaffe of any major House candidate this cycle: his plan to sell nukes to Taiwan.

No time to waste on pleasantries, it seems.

It looks a bit overdone
Especially the obvious reference to the infamous Daisy ad at the start. I'm a bit afraid that this will backfire on her.

I like it!
This race needs a game changer.  It would have been nice, however, if they specified that LaHood was the incumbent Republican.

LaHood's been there forever
People know him.

Been there forever?
14 years is nothing.  His predecessor, Bob Michel, served 38 years (all of it in the minority).

He is an exceedingly well-known figure around Peoria
he's going to freakin' president of Bradley university now. I'm not saying they shouldn't have said who he was, just that I don't think it's a huge deal they didn't.

Tim Johnson down in IL-15 has only been in office since 2000 and he's also very well known across the district. 14 years is a long time in politics.

Not infamous, famous
The daisy ad played once making it the most effective TV politcal ad of all time.  The timing, coming at the end of the TV airing of Dr. Strangelove was perfect.

The ad gets in "immature" (from the Republican who represents the district).  Perfect.  Schock is a twin to a lot of GOP wunderkids like Patrick McHenry.  Spoiled brats who represent something other than their districts: they represent their overwhelming ambition.

Let's remember, Goldwater gloried in the idea of being "extreme" in 1964 claiming in a very powerful comvention speech that "extremism in the defense of liberty is no vice."  It was up to Johnson to show that extremism was beyond a vice, it was an inexcusable danger.  And he sure did it with the daisy spot.  I certainly wish that Democrats had been able to pin down the extremist George W. Bush just as well in 2000 or 2004.

Additional comment
Also, is there any way to save videos?  I plan to go to grad school in the near future and earn a Ph.D. in political science.  One of my areas of interest is political communication.  I would like to save campaign ads for later research.

one method: try www.KeepVid.com
for Youtube (and similar) video sites.
Just paste in the URL, it saves it in .flv format. Then find a player that plays flv format files (a few free ones are one there).

Thanks! It worked.

They couldve done better
They could've spelt out the danger a bit more with Taiwan and China's relationship and what that does there.

And the beginning is cheesey.

It's too bad, he's 27 and will be a Congressman probably for a long long long time.  And he's hot, what a waste.

Who knows
Maybe one day he'll be bi(partisan)-curious.

LOL
Best one liner of the week! lol

...Something is happening in this race. :O
Now I'm paying attention again.

party: Democratic, ideology: moderate, district: CT-01

I'm going to highlight a different race every day or so, here in my sig (if I can get it to work) and on IRC
and so far it's been LA-01 Jim Harlan, KY-Sen Bruce Lunsford, and now IL-18 Colleen Callahan!

I'm going to update this in both my sig and IRC (if I can get my sig to work, that is; I've had trouble with it before).

party: Democratic, ideology: moderate, district: CT-01

Very Risky
But if she's going to win this, she has to pull no punches.  People are already nervous about their homes and their bank accounts, so reminding them that Aaron Schock is dumber than  shit and thinks that inciting war with China is a good idea might be the only way to turn this around.

22, Democrat, AZ-01
Peace. Love. Gabby.
