FL-25: Diaz-Balart Claims Support From Wasserman Schultz and Meek

by: James L.

Longtime readers of the Swing State Project know that we have written extensively about the Debbie Wasserman Schultz controversy in the past (see here, here, here, here, here, here, here, here, here, here, here, here, here, and here), so I won't spill a ton of ink on the subject again. However, FLA Politics shares this disgusting new video of GOP Rep. Mario Diaz-Balart basking in the warm glow of his "bipartisan" support from Democratic Reps. Debbie Wasserman Schultz (co-chair of the DCCC's Red to Blue program) and Kendrick Meek:

It's entirely predictable that Diaz-Balart, facing the fight of his political career against Democrat Joe Garcia and barely leading in the latest poll, would pull this pair of Democratic bunnies out of his hat. Note how clearly he is savoring the fact that Schultz and Meek "refuse to help" Garcia, and let that be a lesson to any weak-hearted Dems who give cover to their vulnerable GOP colleagues.

VA-05 SUSA poll out - Not good news

Virgil Goode (R) 64%
Tom Perriello (D) 30%

Ugg... very disappointing.

Anyone think Debbie will run for Senate in '10?
I think she's a prime pick (Jew, moderate, working mom) to take out Martinez and it will free up someone a bit more dedicated be in charge of Red to Blue.

Let's Make a Deal With Her
Help out Joe Garcia and the two other candidates that James L. had been referring to regarding Debbie this cycle.

And instead of virtually destroying her chances at a potential Senate run in 2010 (virtually=by way of blogs), the netroots agree to help her.

Those other two candidates
are Hileah mayor Raul Martinez and Businesswoman Annette Taddeo.

nope
Fuck her, she's done in my book.  This is EXACTLY why you cant show any mercy in politics, it'll come back and bite you in the ass.  Stupid stupid stupid.  If I were a politician, I'd put politics before friendships, especially when those friends are DESTROYING OUR COUNTRY!!!!

She's really not moderate
She may be moderate considering how liberal her district is, but she's probably not moderate enough to win statewide.  I still don't get why people seem to think being Jewish is a plus for running statewide in FL.  The Jewish vote in FL is solidly Democratic anyway and Jews almost always have a high turnout rate.  A Jewish candidate may pull in slightly more votes in Broward, Palm Beach and Dade, but outside of that region they'd probably do worse.  North and parts of Central FL are still heavily WASP country.

Well, I think it might be her intention
But does she really believe that when the chips are down, all the Repubs she's been so desperately pandering to are going to return the favor?  I think she's in for some nasty surprises if she runs statewide.

Florida Congressional Dems can be aggravating
They basically have an unwritten policy of collaborating with Florida house republicans to stay out of their races and be content with their little D+15 or higher feifdoms.  Most of them couldn't care less how few Democrats are in the FL delegation so long as they ae drawn districts so democratic they never have to worry about getting re-elected.

That makes alot of sense
No wonder our numbers are so small in the FL Delegation. If Republican gerrymandering isn't enough we have to deal with our incumbents hurting our chances of a pick up

This is disgusting, Please forward this post to the DCCC with a
question for the Chairman! Mr. Van Hollen, after revieweing this, please explain why I should donate to the DCCC instead of selecting my own Democratic candidates to support through ActBlue?

Even with their support
I expect this one to be one out of seven Republican seats lost in Florida on November 4.

Rep Wasserman-Schultz/Dias-Balart
I checked with Wasserman-Schultz' campaign office and found that the Congresswoman has indeed contributed to Joe Garcia's campaign. Diaz-Balart is simply (how to put this?) lying.

She needs to go the next step now
A press release specifically citing his statement followed by her own statement that she has contributed to and endorses Garcia!
