FL-Sen: Jeb Bush Begging off a Run?

by: DavidNYC

Tue Jan 06, 2009 at 12:30 AM EST

Brothers and sisters, let us pray:

Republican excitement over the prospect of Jeb Bush running for U.S. Senate has given way to increasing speculation that the former governor will stay out of the race.

Bush declined to comment for this article but was expected to make an announcement perhaps as early as this week. Even with his father on national TV Sunday touting Bush as a terrific potential future senator or president, friends say family considerations could outweigh the pull of public service.

Among other things, the article suggests that Bush might be reluctant to run because it would hurt his consulting business (which I can only assume has been quite lucrative). Please, Jeb, think of your bank account!

Good
I don't want that fool as my Senator.

Aye!
While I don't live in FL yet, I plan on moving there once my law school is done so I can be closer to my siblings and my mother. Under no circumstances do I want Jebediah as my senator. His brother was bad enough.

Who is worse?
Jeb or Martinez?

Jeb by a mile
Plus Jeb scares me more than Mel.  Unlike Mel, Jeb is a very crafty, skilled politician and a very good public speaker unlike Dubya.  That goes a long way in covering up his ultra-conservative views on almost everything.  The only thing Jeb is moderate to liberal on is immigration.

Please God, let him say no to this race...
The Bush family has done enough damage to last a millenium, please, no more.  I beg for mercy.

If Jeb passes on this race
it suggests that he may be running for President in 2012.  If Clinton was President, Bush would stay out because Daddy Bush and Bill Clinton are close.  But all bets are off against President Obama.

Doubt it
Unless Obama's first term is an unmitigated disaster I can't see Jeb taking a crack at a sitting President.  Especially with the last Bush (known as the worst President in history) fresh in peoples' minds.

Time
Jeb best electoral friend is time.  The longer time that passes after Bush leaves office, the better Jeb's chances will be.  If I were him, I would target 2016 as the earliest possible time to run.  I am personally hopeful, however, that no amount of time in Jeb's life will be enough to erase the stain of his surname.

But the name Jeb isn't in Florida
Believe me, he's carved out his own name in Florida.  He's still very popular here and would win against anyone we could throw against him.  He's a master of disguise really.  He's every bit as nutty as his little bro, but fools anough Floridians into thinking he's some bi-partian figure.

jeb
if that is true atleast we would have a new neo-con punching bag in the senate plus it might be fun to see him try to run for president with that last name...i do not think there is a chance in hell he could win the presidency after what his brother did to the country and the GOP.

jeb 2
i just feel sorry for the people of florida if they do elect him.

My parents voted for Bill McBride in 2002
Don't blame them.

Also, from the "Bush Cards":

Jeb Bush
"Jeb has assured me we have Florida." ~GWB

Bill Posey is not half-alligator...and is outclassed by Davy Crockett anyway: http://www.washingtonmonthly.c...
