CO-04, ID-01: Musgrave and Sali Considering Rematches

by: James L.

Mon Dec 08, 2008 at 8:29 PM EST

From the "Oh Please Yes!" Dept., neither Marilyn Musgrave or Bill Sali, defeated last month by hard-charging Democrats thanks in large part due to their sheer batshittery, are ruling out another run for their seats.

From The Hill:

Idaho Republican Party Executive Director Sid Smith said that the top potential challengers are state Sen. John McGee, state Attorney General Lawrence Wasden and, if he opts for a rematch, Sali.

Sali spokesman Wayne Hoffman did not rule that out.

"Running again in 2010 is an option that's definitely still on the table," he told The Hill.

And 9News.com:

Musgrave is not ruling out a future campaign.

"I will always be interested in politics. Whether I'll run again for office I don't know. I'll always be active, I'll always be involved," she said.

Of course, if either of these mouth-breathers run again, they'd almost surely draw some serious primary competition -- but it would still be entertaining!

Nothing would be better
than having them both WIN their primaries. Yes, the wingnuts are that nuts.

Anyone want to take bets?
The Club for Growth immediately jumps in to help both of them in primaries if they run.

Your go-to source for great sarcasm

Praise Jesus
Let's hope so.  I'll send a check.

Especially Sali.  I love his tagline...

Which Tagline Was That?
I remember the time he said that global warming was caused by deforestation due to forest fires....WTF?

[ Parent ]
Club candidates
As you recall, Sali is a Club for Growth favorite and might indeed appeal to them to help fund a rematch.

I'm not so sure Musgrave would be high on their list. I don't know how she ranks on their criteria. I associate her with extremist views on social issues,  and that's not the Club for Growth's hobbyhorse. They don't disapprove of Neanderthal views on social issues, but their focus is small-government, low-tax candidates.

[ Parent ]
As non-incumbents they are going to find out again
how hard it is to fundraise.  Just like what happened in NH-01, the Democrat fundraised more, the Republican fundraised less, and the Democrat won by a larger margin.

Especially for a guy like Sali
Who never even raised much as an incumbent (a sign of just how unloved he was), and only won the first time around on the backs of the Club For Brain.

[ Parent ]
Sali was the guy
who believed forest fires contributed to global warming (I thought it was the other way around). If he ran against Minnick again, it would be like TX-22 in 2006.

[ Parent ]
Please run
Because as we all know, Musgrave's 12 point loss and Sali's loss in an R+19 district were just flukes.

she still hasn't conceeded
looking into the tens of thousands of votes lizard people stole and took to feast on in their underground layers deep beneath the innocous mountains of Colorado.

off subject, but
anyone else like the idea of making Kenny Guinn Secretary of Education?

Call no man happy until he is dead-Aeschylus

Former republican Nevada Governor
Don't know a lot about him other than he's a big government republican.  Sounds like one of the better republicans out there.  What are his credentials for Secretary of Education?

[ Parent ]
Also
I do recall that he refused to endorse the 2006 republican nominee Gibbons for Governor which scores points in my book.

[ Parent ]
well, h was former superintendent
of the Clark County area and focused a lot on educational iniatives as governor. I would go over well I think to appoint a moderate centrist governor, politically, and looking at it, I think he would be one of the best people for the job.

As we've said before
Let's please try to limit off-topic chatter in comments under unrelated posts. Thanks.

[ Parent ]
Heard he was an alright Gov of NV
Why, is he really being considered?

[ Parent ]
he should be

Harris
On that note, Andy Harris said yet again he's considering running again for Congress, or for governor (which would be hilarious). Hopefully Alex Mooney will primary Roscoe Bartlett so the CFG can lose two races in Maryland

Ehrlich is supposedly
gearing up for a rematch.

I'm an athesit, but...
...please, god, make it happen.  Minnick is in major trouble solely because of the partisan leanings of his district.  Markey will be in better shape as Obama carried her district (aside: how can Obama carry CO-04 but not CO-03?).  But in either case, their jobs will be much easier with the wingnuts they've already defeated running again.

Obama ran very well in Larimer County
And there's just less rural area in CO-04 than 03, population-wise at least. And McCain didn't get to run up high margins in places like Mesa County, where he won by 30.

[ Parent ]
Obama still lost CO-04 by a few
points. He lost Weld, not by enough to completely cancel out his margins in Larimer, but even the tiny portion of Boulder in the district and the remaining votes from Weld aren't enough to override the 70-30% margins among the 100 thousand votes from the twenty or so rural counties. Democrats have to win Weld and Larimer to win the district, but Obama's margins weren't Kerry's. The district has been trending our way a awhile. Bush got 61% in 2000, 58% in 2008, (despite improving his popular vote by two points nationwide), and it looks like McCain won it only around 51-48 this time around. CO-03 remains very sharply divided. Its a more conservative district because though there are several rural and populous Democratic strongholds such as pueblo and their is a large hispanic and native american population, there are also a lot of soldily conservative mountains and the population center is forever conservative Mesa which gave McCain 67%, about the same it gave Bush. The district is remaining divided, its stagnant as far as a political trends go.

God why are most Republican women such glorious trainwrecks?
Marilyn Musgrave, Michelle Bachman, Melissa Hart, Katherine Harris, Sarah Palin. Part of me just wants to take all of them to a bar, get shitfaced, and do karaoke together. I would be in heaven!

On the other hand
some of the GOP's most reasonable members are women: Linda Lingle, Olympia Snowe, Susan Collins...

[ Parent ]
Even more
Jean Schmidt, Marsha Blackburn (like Ainsley Haines from the West Wing, only dumber and more annoying), Virginia Foxx (god, I would hate to have her for a grandmother), Helen Chenoweth (insisted in being called "CongressMAN" and said that white Christian males are the only discriminated against group).

Oh god
please let this be true.

BREAKING NEWS!
A news report that Illinois' Democratic governor "Hot Rod" Blagojevich is finally taken away by the
feds
.  Now, who wants his appointment to the Senate?

Me!
I've got five million dollars in the bank that I can give to Blago in shady campaign cash!

Bill Posey is not half-alligator...and is outclassed by Davy Crockett anyway: http://www.washingtonmonthly.c...
