WA-08: Burner Raises a Stunning $350K in July

by: James L.

Thu Aug 07, 2008 at 7:17 PM EDT

While the month started off catastrophically for Darcy Burner when a fire destroyed her home, she sure has ended it on a high note.

Burner's campaign has just turned in their pre-primary filing with the FEC, and she's reporting to have raised nearly $351,000 in the month of July, ending the period with close to $1.5 million in the bank. Those are monstrous numbers, especially when you consider that only $18,000 of her total came from PACs.

We'll let you know what GOP Rep. Dave Reichert raised as soon as he files his report. Wow.

UPDATE: Dave Reichert? $115,000, with $928,000 cash-on-hand. I wonder if he just dropped a brick on the floor of his campaign office.

When's Reichert's filing due?
Barring a huge last-minute mistake, I don't see how Burner loses this one.  Her fundraising advantage + the DCCC's huge fundraising advantage + a big Obama landslide in Washington = the end of Dave Reichert's short political career.

The deadline is at midnight.
Burner still has a tough race ahead of her, but she's really doing everything right so far.

I agree
I think Burner will pull it out.  Reichert was only up something like 50-46 in the last SUSA poll and it's still early in the race.

Holy shit!
Combine this with her great new ads and I think we'll be seeing Rep. Burner in 2009!

About a third of that was from the intertubes.

115K?
That's not very good at all for Reichert, especially for a wealthy district like WA-08.

John McCain lets lobbyists shape his economic policy

Hahahahaha
Yeah. He's raised a little more then Darcy has in cash on hand.

Darcy has 600k more cash on hand.

Wonder how much ActBlue and the netroots raised
She got quite a bit of publicity when her house burned down.  This big boost in fundraising may have occured due in part to people being sympathetic to her after that tragedy.  I donated my first $20 to her just after that happened.

Almost a half of that
She started at 250k and is now at 416k on ActBlue.

So about 165k of her 350k was from the netroots.

Add in 10k from grassroots contributions who mailed in or used other forms of online donations and that's half of her haul.

Good work team!

Really terrific numbers
I doubt the NRCC will be able to come in and save Reichert. With an already close race, Burner and the DCCC will be able to surge past him in these last few months.

Now just wait...
for the silly attack that Burner got a lot of her money from outside WA-08.  And especially from those evil blogs.  :-)

Or
Or the whisper campaign that she sacrificed her house and her cat to gain publicity.

is anybody else worried
that congressional candidates in swing districts around the country may start burning their houses down to improve fundraising:)?
